Seventeen kinds of system, and the ones we turn down.

Most projects here are two or three of these at once, because that is how businesses actually work. A quoting system that does not produce the invoice is half a job, and you would feel the other half every month.

Every range below is what work of that shape has actually cost. Three minutes on the estimator turns it into a figure for yours, with the split across every phase and a live date.

18Where we stop

The work we turn down, and why.

Anyone can say yes to everything, and plenty do. A clear no is what makes the yes worth having, and it is the fastest way to tell a specialist from a generalist.

Each of these sits outside what this studio does well, so you get pointed at somebody who does them properly instead of a team learning the craft on your budget.

Apps in the Apple or Google stores
What gets built here works on a phone properly, through the browser, and pins to a home screen like any other app. A true store app is a different craft with its own release cycle, and you will get better work from a studio that does nothing else.
Software inside a physical product
Firmware, embedded controllers and anything certified as part of a device. The system your people use around it, and the connection to whoever makes it, is very much on the table.
Anything a life depends on
Medical devices under MHRA regulation, clinical decision-making, aviation, and control systems where a fault injures somebody. These need a regulatory quality system, and you should never accept one from a supplier who cannot show you theirs.
Trading and settlement systems
Order execution, market making and anything carrying an FCA permission of its own. The reporting and back-office work around the edges of yours is well within scope.
Testing your defences by attacking them
The controls and the evidence get built here. Penetration testing and red teaming are a separate speciality, and you get an introduction to people who do it properly.
Games, and anything drawn in 3D
A different craft needing different people, and you would end up with something nobody here would put their name to.
Work under £30,000
Below that, the discovery and assurance that make a build worth having cost more than the build itself, so you would be buying process instead of software. No Fear Tech takes on smaller work, does it well, and charges you less for it.

19Whatever we build

Some things are in every single one of them.

It works on a phone

Properly, not as a shrunken version of the desktop screens. People on site get what people on site need.

It is quick

Fast enough that nobody thinks about it. Slow software gets worked around, and a worked-around system is a wasted one.

Everybody can use it

Readable at a distance, usable by keyboard, and sensible with a screen reader, whether or not you have asked for it.

It keeps a record

Who changed what, and when. Not because anyone is being watched, but because the question always eventually gets asked.

It is yours

Handed over outright with everything needed to run it, change it, or give it to somebody else entirely.

It backs itself up

And the backups get restored on a schedule to prove they work, because an untested backup is only a hope.

Not sure which of the 17 yours is?

You do not need to be. Describe what is going wrong in your own words and the estimator works out the shape of it, prices it, and gives you a date, in about three minutes.
